Jim Kavourias graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1997 where he led the state with a .625 batting average and earned First Team All-Conference honors in the MAC-8. He played at West Virginia University (1997-98) and Pensacola Junior College (1998-99) before transferring to the University of Tampa (1999-2000), where he shattered Tino Martinez’s RBI record with 90 RBIs, 23 HRs, and a .365 batting average.
🏀 Professional Career
Jim was drafted twice: first as a 32nd round pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks, then as a 5th round pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2000 Amateur Draft. He was named a Midwest League All-Star in 2001, crushing 23 HRs with 90 RBIs. Jim played six seasons in the Minor Leagues alongside future MLB superstars Miguel Cabrera and Adrian Gonzalez.
